Loading the LS3 with more than 30kN (3t)

LineGrip Knowledge-Base:

The short answer: you shouldn’t!

The long answer: you can, most probably without causing damage to the strain gauges, but you will void warranty.
The LS3 is built with 30kN WLL (working load limit). This is the force that the LS3 will sustain repeatedly and permanently without taking damage.

So you can load your LS3 with more than 30kN probably without ever having any issues (many users, especially arborists do) but you must be aware that in case of damage the warranty will be void.
The max load that was ever “seen” by the device is recorded in permanent memory, and will be read out before a repair. Should this value be above 30kN the service partner may reject warranty repair.
See more details about this register here: How to check if the LS3 has ever been overloaded to >30kN

The LS3 offers an option to override the original “OVERLOAD” message, see details here: Overload message
This option was originally designed to lower the OVERLOAD-message threshold for rope access, and rescue personell.
But it was later amended to also allow for 35kN and 40kN to accommodate for scenarios where occasional slight force peaks >30kN would disrupt logging.
So you should only set this >30kN if absolutely necessary and unavoidable for your use scenario.

We even have a special “Arborist Firmware” that is unlocked to display loads up to 60kN!
However, this firmware is offered under exclusion of all warranty claims for any specific device on which it is used.
Further requirements must also be met to acquire this firmware.
