Battery (life, replacement, charging, draining)

LineGrip Knowledge-Base:

The LS3 and LS3i are equipped with a 1550 or 1600mAh Lithium-Ion battery pack. Experience over the course of the past 8 years (LineScale-2 included) shows that the life cycle of these battery packs is 5 years and more. This is due to the very rarely charged battery, i.e. the very long charging cycle in comparison to a smartphone. Most users charge the LineScale only once a month, if not less. A full battery will offer 50+ hours of operation (with active power save).

The LS3 features an electronic deep-discharge protection that will not drain the battery below 10% capacity to protect it against damage. Therefore draining the battery to auto-shutdown occasionally will not directly damage the battery, however, you should avoid this whenever possible.

The duration for fully recharging an empty battery depends on the charger used, and the temperature.
Using the recommended 0.5A charger (preserves battery life) it will take about 6-8 hours.
Using a high power / high speed charger (3A) will charge the battery to 80% within about one hour, and to full charge within about 3 hours.

Best battery life will be achieved by keeping the battery at a 20-80% charge, and using a 500mA charger.

The battery is not user replaceable because the polycarbonate screen is watertight sealed with silicone adhesive and will be destroyed during opening.
Battery replacement needs to be done by a certified LineScale service partner (currently only CMC and LineGrip Corp).
